So Monday dawned, we said goodbye to the Talley Munchkins and headed home.
Emily and Johny wave us on our way.
The second day on the way home we stopped in Farmington, New Mexico for a picture of their new temple there. It was our 70th of our goal of one hundred. The open house will be in July.
And laughed at someone's joke about the new Spanish Fork Temple ... hahaha, for the uninitiated it is the Dream Mine, one of those things that proves that God's helpers on the earth are human and susceptible to error, just like everybody else. In 1894 a bishop in town had a dream about finding Spanish Gold, he bought the land he'd seen in his dream and sold shares in the claim, which was closed and reopened periodically for more than a hundred years. Even though the former bishop was eventually excommunicated there are still people who are called dream-miners who own stock and still believe gold will be found someday. I've even met one.
We got home around 5 on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, I went to work and Dad went to Salt Lake to Marilyn Clayton's funeral. Her husband was the first person to show me a computer processing program. I recall being amazed that you could go back and insert. It was incomprehensible to me then.
Above is Dad with former Bishop Roger Essen, with who also served in Finland, and whose family lived in the Butler 8th ward with us.
Here he is with two of Marilyn's sons, Ken on the left and Dan on the right.
The Despains.
With Jolene Swift.
Meanwhile I was at work, and ran into this gal's best friend. She told me about having a friend who looked just like me, and who lives in Spring City. I looked her up on Facebook, and this is she. I can sort of see it, though I would much rather have her nose than mine.
I had made some chili before heading to work, and Dad made corn bread and brownies to go with it. After work we headed over to Sister Evans house to share dinner and a Hallmark movie, which is always fun.
Thursday was Abbie's birthday and she turned 10.
Dad headed to the temple on Thursday, while I went to work for a few hours, then Pat came in for me so I could meet my cousin Debbie at the house.
We visited while she worked, and another lady came by to join us, a ladybug that is.
Friday was Mike's birthday and Dad posted these photos.
I put together some finds from Texas to take into The Grove.
the lovely child statue here,
and copper molds here,
as well as the tall brass vase and the blue birdcage are from our trip.
That night as we watched Castle I told Dad I'd passed up this book that I knew he had loved as a kid. I was surprised when he said he wished I had bought it. I found it online and its on its way. I was surprised to read that it was written by Margaret Wise Brown, the author of Good Night Moon.
We drove out to Tooele on Saturday for Janet Brough's funeral. We'd started listening to Henry B. Eyring's biography on our way home from Texas. He has always been my favorite apostle, but there are several things about him that seems to mesh with my likes and interests. I've always thought his thinking was like mine, because I always agree with things he said, and find him so inciteful. For instance, when I was a kid and had sacrament meeting in the evening, sometimes starting at 7, I always loved singing, Abide With Me is Eventide for the closing song. Dad said that he read a talk of Eyring's, where he expressed the same experience as a child.
Another interesting thing is that he is an artist.
He would carry post card sized heavy duty watercolor paper with him on trips and would do these little paintings to be sent home as postcards to show what he was seeing.
I thought that was so fun.
Ran across this picture I loved from a few years ago, and thought I'd share it here.
This is Janet's kids and spouses singing with Marshall. Tracy is behind her Dad.
There were a few ward members who were there. The Colemans, Jolene Swift, Judy Sharp and one of her girls, Kim
Here he is with Marshall.
Here's my local boys at the family party at Trevor and Nell's. Dave ordered a shirt online and ordered it in two sizes to make sure one of them fit. Trevor got the one that didn't.
Becca shared pics of her family on their trip last week. Here they are in North Carolina at the Biltmore Mansion.
Pretty amazing.
Nell's shirt was a pretty close match to the boys.
Elias with the teens downstairs.
Here are the other three Adi, Titan and Elenor.
Davin grabbed his wife, as Trevor was playing the guitar, and swung her around and dipped her. Of course I couldn't get my camera out fast enough. I told him I'd pay him to reenact it, it was soooo cute. He grabbed her up into his arms, expecting payment. He said I owed him $11 in Ha' pennies. Well, they don't make them anymore, but I found one online for $2.65, then when we allowed for the 200 per dollar and the compounded interest rate ... etc, it was something like $25,000 at our death (mine and Dad's) we all laughed and then I told him that, oh well, he hadn't actual dipped her again had he?, so nada ....
But I did get this adorable picture!! And yes, Dave has grown out his hair, and its curly!! I love it.
But the picture of these four girls was my favorite.
We had so much fun that this boy was plum worn out.
Madi with an outdoor game.
Elias and his Dad.
Another cute grand's pic that popped up with Emily's constantly changing wallpaper. Thanks Em.
Britt posted on the family message that she is babysitting this cutie. Who happens to be Nell's sister's baby, and they are watching her kids this weekend. I loved that Britt said, the relatives of my relatives ARE my relatives.
And here's another cute baby, spencer called at the end of the party, and I got to say high to his boys.
What a fun filled week. I hope you enjoyed the lovely weather, like we did. Dad got out and mowed the nice thick, long spring grass. It plum tuckered him out.
