Thanksgiving and Festival of Trees Prep

Wow, so much to do last week.  I started off on Monday by gathering all the stuff I bought the previous week for the antique mall, to sort it ...
Then in furthering the cause of clearing the garage for winter use, I brought in the mannequin on the right, putting on it the dress I bought in Texas when we went to see Emily last

I found two small wedding cake toppers at the Vintage Market on Saturday, and added them into my collection.

Dad was working on the side parlor window, above, this is the before picture...
This is after he stripped off the aluminum window and trims... uncovering his first ever brown painted window.
Then he put caulking into the spaces ... because of the brown trim you can really see how much caulking he is doing.  He decided to seal this one shut because he's replacing the big front window with a new window that has a slider on each side.

Thar night we drove to Salt Lake to see the Scarlet Pimpernel at the Hale theater there, it was our first time to see the theater.  What a great facility....

One of Dad's former employees saw us and posted this picture on line.

On Tuesday we were off to Jack Mason's funeral.  These are his scriptures, very well marked.  We did not know him as well as we did Jerry, his twin brother, as they moved from the Orem ward within 6 months of our arrival, whereas Jerry was actually Dad's counselor for a couple of years.
He served as the executive secretary to two Stake Presidents, as well as being scout master at the same time.  His family was very calm at his passing, obviously they will all miss him tremendously, but they know they'll be with him again, his youngest of nine is 12.

Here are the Heuers and Dad with Jerry, Barb also came, but was going to the cemetery and was in another queue.

That afternoon I went with Luanna Merrill, my ministering partner, to see Dad's cousin Jerry Dibble.  Its been fun to get to know her.  She is talking about getting his other cousin Karen Averett to come and visit us in Finland on our next mission.  Luanna raised ten children, and is in her late 80s.  She very spunky and is lots of fun.
l
That afternoon we met up with Trevor and Nell's family to see the latest Harry Potter related movie.  It was a little confusing since we hadn't seen the first one, but they invited us to their house that night to see the first one.
Then we headed to Becca and Brady's to celebrate Mac's birthday.

As always it was fun to see a one year old experience his birthday cake.

Then we went over to Trevor and Nell's to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Dad was back to doing windows again on Wednesday when I was off to work.  He painted the north parlor window.
Then installed the second floor bathroom window.

Last of all he pulled off the plexiglass covering on the front stained glass window and installed a secondary window on the inside to seal it. With the more clear window in place our rainbow time is amazing.

When I got home, I worked on setting the tables for Thursday, Dad had gotten them all out and brought in the chairs.  Then I put together a new display in this small cabinet.

Thursday morning we got busy on food prep early

Brittney and Spencer came early, bringing this beautiful pecan pie, my favorite, and since it was a sugar day for me, I was very excited.

 Let the dining begin.

Darby's friend Dallas brought his younger brother Zach, which was fun.
We ended up with our adult children and partners in the dining room, the littles in the family room and the preteens and teens, along with Dad and I in the parlor.
8 pies and no duplicates. Thanks to all the kids who brought them.

This little turkey was pretty popular, as you can see.

 A vegan, a pescatarian and a vegetarian.

 Kissing the dog.
Madi was actually asking to be tickled.
 My two youngest grandchildren.
Hannah gets hugs.

 Playing a game.

Eva redid my chalk board.

 Turkey coma setting in.

Pictures out front.

It was fun to later steal this picture off the Internet, of our family contingent in Idaho.  Please note that they are also eating off a set of my dishes.

On Friday we were up early to finish up Festival of Trees projects.  I bought this cupboard in the summer in peices, well the main part was together, but the bottom and the panels on one side were off.  Dad worked on it over a couple of months, putting it together, then constructing some pretty complicated shelves.  The pie safe had belonged to the gal's grandmother, out of Ogden, she was sad to let it go.  But now its going to a good cause.
I used the paint that Dad has been using on the windows, and raving about ... now I know why.  Its a dream, self leveling and no brush strokes.  Coverage is great too.  He also took out a spindle on the rocker and moved another, he's my 'rocker' star.
On Saturday Dad and I finished up the ornaments for the tree for Festival.  It literally took all day long, but he was a trooper, painting things for me, and running to the store, etc.

He also managed to get the front door trim painted, and found some better insulation that actually allows us to shut the door, without fear of breaking the glass.

He did manage to get away to watch the U of U, BYU game that night at Trevors, along with Spencer and his family.

Today I woke up with the stomach flu, perfect timing, especially if its the 24 hour one that I'm counting on.  I had two days to finish up the tree stuff, and hopefully I will be better for set up tomorrow.
Dad was off to church as normal, and I stayed home sleeping on and off.  I asked Nell to put together a picture that we can use to dedicate the tree to Ben.   Here it is.  Thanks Nell.

So that was our really lovely Thanksgiving week, we hope yours was lovely as well.
