Dad Saves the Day, over and over again.

This week was the official changeover for fleaology.  I will still be going as a vendor and helping with advertising, but Sherri's daughter Katie is taking over.  My brain is just too befuddled for the computer part of the work. This is the new name to reflect the location and their family name.  I thought it was perfect.

Monday found me at Treasures adding a few more details to my new booth, in fact I was there four days this week.  I think this little book shelf made from 2 books, is just fun.

At noon we headed over for a training session at Mosida.  We have two new sets of missionaries, and did a sort of training, including a hoedown.  The new couples are the Newmans and the Hardmans who served in Nauvoo and learned to call hoedowns.  It was fun because he taught us to also do the Virginia Reel.  The Newmans have 7 kids and 27 grandchildren, he was a nurse probationer. and live in Spring Lake. The Hardman's have 8 children and 15 grand children.  He was a Mechanical Engineer and worked in the Space Industry. They live in Pleasant Grove on the Lindon end.

That night we went over to Caren Kirk's house to play games.  She was injured in a fall a couple of days before Christmas, and is just out of rehab.  Her hip broke, but she is on the mend and she is just using a cane now.

she won the game, but I thought it was interesting how well balanced  the board ended up being.

On Tuesday I started out by taking all the ornaments off the tree and getting them sorted and boxed, while Dad took down the lights on the fence.  Then Dad stayed home to wait for the fireplace guy.  His company has made 5 visits now to chase down the problem, a kink made in the gas line caused a minute hole when it was installed.  We probably had people out at least four times, over the last 20 years to try to fix it.  It would run for about 5 minute and then turn itself off.  So annoying.  Now it works.  Some of the innards have changed in manufacturing over the last 20 years, so he had to order and then adapt parts to make it work.  We are just sooo happy. If you need your gas fireplace fixed, he's the owner of Love's Fireplace repair.  Dad looked up his feedback and he has 135 reviews all with a 5 star ratings.

I headed to the mall again that day to gather green items from other booths to add to the new one.  I also put out all of my bride cake topper collection, show on the left here.

Then I did some junking and other errands up north, including going to Trader Joe's and picking up my paycheck at The Grove in PG..

I got back as far as Spanish, where I met up with Ann for a Sour Dough Bread class at Abigail's Kitchen.

The husband started out with the ten of us there, while his wife managed an on line class for more than 100 others from California to Maine.

Then she joined him ... I love her 'Chosen' hat and shirt.  They have 10 children, though they look way too young, and Abigail is one of their children. Their presentation was pretty educational.

Ann and I were twinning it, both in gold sweaters.

Dad came and picked me up a bit early so we could meet up with Heuers and Moes to see A Man Called Otto. We both loved it.

On Wednesday Dad  put in all the can lights at Darby's.

And I did more work on the booth.  Its getting pretty full now.

On Thursday morning, before work I took down the rest of the Christmas in the living room (Angels and garlands) and the entry way, (The historic ornament tree), as well as a few odds and ends in the dining room.  The mushroom tree in the kitchen will be with us for a little while yet.

At work Thursday it turned out to be friend day at the mall. Besides other dealers who were in and out all day,  Lavern and Ron, came by.

And the gal in stripes is the mother of the other two women.  Suzanne  has also been in my book club for almost 25 years.  We will be celebrating the original meeting that happen in June of 1998.  (If you're  a long time reader, you may recognize her from the fairy party she gives annually.)

Thursday was Dad's day to go to the temple.

But Trevor and Nell win the prize for the most memorable Thursday, as while attending the Sundance Film Festival (They want to thank Dallas for the experience, as it was his Christmas gift exchange gift to them) they stood in line with Gail Miller (of Larry H. Miller fame), and then actually sat by her at the movie as well.  They saw a movie called 'Radical' which Darby and Dallas later saw Saturday, and which we will see tomorrow (Monday).

After work I headed to the church where we were having a movie night for our Relief Society activity where we watched Everafter, its a Cinderella movie.  I'd gotten home too late from work to get the ice cream and topping I was to bring, so Dad did it again, saving the day by picking some up and bringing it by.

Here I am with the cool kids, Abigail Olsen and Cynthia Worthen.

They wanted to see my gnome hat up, so asked to do a shot with 'hoods'.  These are such fun gals.

While I was gone Dad installed the new faucets in our bathroom, as the old one was leaking so badly we had to turn off the supply line between baths. While changing it out he discovered that the valve for the hot water on the floor was completely broken so he replaced it as well.

On Friday Dad saved the day once more by loading the fainting couch into the van so we could take it to my friend Mary's house, who had agreed to purchase it.  We were pleasantly surprised by lunch there.  We had ALT (Avocado, lettuce and tomato) sandwiches, which were yummy.

We ran some errands, like grocery shopping and DI before finishing up the day with Cafe Rio.

On Saturday morning we headed to Indian Hills in Provo for a funeral for the mother of Denise Jamsa, who we served with on our second mission, until they were sent home due to Covid.  It was fun to run into Joni Swift, now Velis, who used to babysit the kids.  We've been friends on face book for many years. It turns out that Joni taught elementary school for years with Denise's sister, Laila.
Denise had asked Dad to come and sing with her siblings, and the grand kids of her mother. Her Mom was a Finn, so of course singing the Finnish words to Finlandia (Same tune as Be Still My Soul) was necessarily included.  The tall blond in the middle-ish, is also a Finnish Singing American. Tiina Watts'  father served as a mission president when she was a child, she also served a mission there, and now teaches Finnish at BYU.  Denise is hugely into music, and thought the two additional voices confidently singing in Finnish would help the rest of the group singing in an unfamiliar language.

Here's Dad far left, and Denise's husband Ralph (Also half Finnish) on the far right. The two half Finns met on their respective missions to Finland, so all of their children are also half Finnish.

Here's a closer shot of Tiina Watts.

Then we got to watch these great kids, as their folks were going to a work event.  We hope Sam appreciates that we had a Texas Ranger's evening.  Mainly because we decided to make Ranger Cookies, and I found out that the original name is Texas Ranger Cookies.  Then Dad played Home on the Range on the guitar and the kids sang along.  I gave a short history on the Texas Rangers, then we played ....Cero ... which is Zilch in Spanish ...  we had a great time, and Adi and then Elias each won with Kenna coming in second in both games.

Today Penny spoke in Primary and gave this talk she had written herself.  She did such a great job.

Of course we attended church today, and then I made pizzas so we could eat them calzone style.  I had pictures of us eating Calzone style pizzas show up in my suggested pictures from our mission time.  I had forgotten them, and they were so yummy.

So that was our week, it seems like Dad saved the day, everyday.  I am so blessed to be married to a man who gets such great joy from working and from serving others.  Thanks honey.
