Johnny Was Carried Home This Week ... Hurrah Hurrah.

... and our second week in Bonham, Texas begins.  Of course we love the time with these sweet grandkids.  Here we are before school.

And while they were at school Emily drove us into the neighboring town of Plano to check out a Japanese dollar store called Daiso.  That was super fun.  There are a lot of Asian stores in the area, and some kind of Asian temple as well.  Happily Dad noticed a restaurant, the Kura Revolving Sushi bar, which had a conveyor belt like restaurants we visited in Japan, that had various selections that passed by, at a set price per plate.  We loved it.

Here's Dad with some of our finished plates.

and one of our selections.

Very happifying.

so full ....

Benny had a good time too, mainly because Emily had some snacks in her super cute bag that Becca got her.

Because it was Halloween the wait staff wore costumes.

That afternoon we took all the kids to trick or treat at the Bonham courthouse square.  It was so fun.

I thought this was a simple costume ...

Then found our they were just a few of Cruella's puppies.  Pretty sure there were not 101, but they were much larger than the originals.

Benny had wanted to be 'Venom', so when we found one we took their picture together.

Here they are at the end with their literally overflowing buckets.  Dad and I walked behind and had to let a couple of them know they had candy dropping off the top of their piles.

On Tuesday Emily had her doctor's appointment and dropped me off at the Good Will Bin's store.  I gathered a few goodies, then she came back for me.  We headed to lunch, (The doctor had said she was on track to be started on Thursday) but got there too early, so we went around the corner to an antique store, there in Sherman.  She showed me this picture and said that they'd been talking about Revolutionary heroes, including Washington. Their kids are loving Hamilton, the musical and they watch bits of it, as well as listening to the music.

So later when I saw this amazingly ahead of her time quote from Martha Washington, I thought I'd share.

After finding a few goodies at the antique store, we headed back to the restaurant, the Sage Cafe.

Really good food, besides the cute patchwork door wall.

Wow, that veggie sandwich was simple amazing.  Grilled Zucchini and Yellow squash, topped with sauteed mushrooms, topped with cheese, and finishing the pile with lettuce and tomatoes.  The bread was bruscheta, no hope of eating it as a sandwich, but this is definitely a sandwich I will create some version of at home.  so YUM.

Back at home after school with these cuties.

Such a long, long day.

Wednesday was more junking for me.

Then it was Thursday and we met Johnny for the first time.  Such a cute bundle of Talliness. He was born at 12;27 P.M., after a fairly short and uneventful labor, Emily's best.  He was 20 inches long and weighed in at 7 pounds and 8 ounces. His name is Jonathan Clark Talley.

such happy siblings.

Momma seems pretty happy to have him in her arms.

How cute are all of these.

I went out on Friday and bought some sculpy clay to make mushrooms for my Scadi Christmas tree.  I have some mushrooms from Finland and a few glass mushroom ornaments I bought at the dollar store 30 years ago, but I need some more. Bekie and Abbie both made mushrooms for themselves as well.

That afternoon this guy came home.

Oh my, how Benny loves this baby.

So we were all enjoying a quiet, joy filled afternoon when our phones all went off with a weather alert.

Several tornadoes had touch down in the area.  So we all tromped next door to Sam's folks house to wait out the storms.  Since their prefabricated house is ranked as a mobile home, this is what they do.  Of course we enjoyed our time with Sheila and Steve, as they are lovely hosts.

A tornado sky is said to have a greenish caste to it, though I am not sure this photo really captures that.

This house is one of 50 structures in and around the town of Paris that were hit, the town is a half an hour away.

Around 5:30 the house lost power, and Sam and Emily were so ready for that.  Out came glow sticks for a glass in the bathroom, which surprised me by providing enough light.

I got a flash light to read my book by, and somehow that privation made the book about a German Concentration camp feel more real.  The power came back on at 11:30.  We later heard that the power crews were out for 36 straight house repairing lines and putting up poles.
Lucky for us Saturday was lovely.  We headed the hour and a half to Canton for the First Monday Trade Days sale.  I didn't have much hope of getting any great deals as it was the third day of the sale, but I did great.  People were just ready to give good deals.
The day before there had been a lot of rain, at least two inches judging  by the amount of water in items for sale.  One dealer told us that all of those who were there during the alerts were herded into the restrooms for safety, but the tornadoes came no closer to them than to us.

I loved this mobile set up.

This is the other side of the bus, set with shelves, etc.  The people drive the bus to the site, then unload the merchandise and sleep inside for the duration of the show.  Quite a work plan, eh?

One booth was filled with children's tea sets.  The man selling them had bought the estate of a local hoarder.  She'd gone into a care facility 20 years before, and the house had been locked up.  She had collected several things, but he brought some of the 1,000 children's tea sets to sell.  He said he had sold 300 sets to one woman.  Wow.  He's now down to the remaining 2 or 3 hundred.  Whoa.  I did my best, but only managed for find 4 sets complete enough to sell.

Here's Dad with his best Grinch face.

Back at home, Bekie get's a piggy back ride.

Now for a few pics from social media.  This is a missionary we have been acquainted with, who is serving a service mission in the Philippines.  She got to go through the temple for her first time this week.

Another fun picture of Charley and her shenanigans.

An older picture of Hannah and friends doing acroyoga.

Becca held her fund raiser for another agent, whose baby was born this year with an underdeveloped heart.  Together their office gathered over 20,000 dollars for various surgeries, and special care.  It does the heart good.

Of course the baby is the center of attention around here.

Grandma Sheila came over for a visit too.

and brought not only Pizza, but pumpkin pie. Emily kept us well fed with lots of veggie combinations.

Sam's Dad came over so the guys could watch some football together as well.

Sunday morning activities, I loved seeing.  Like building this nativity with legos.  Isn't the star stellar?

Way to go William.

at Church we had a fabulous teacher in Gospel Doctrine.  Gina is Sheila's best friend, and I have known her for a long time as a good friend, and service oriented person.  But I was not prepared for her to be a powerhouse as a Sunday School teacher.  I love a good Sunday School lesson, and she filled the bill. It sort of makes me want to move here.

Back at home with the kiddos.

Emily suggested we watch Fiddler on the Roof, as I had a pretty short list of movies they could watch as kids on Sundays, and she loved this one, along with the Ten Commandments.  I love that she has those good memories of growing up.

I like the movie as well.

However we left partway through because Sam's brother Micheal was out at a market selling his homemade sour dough bread.  We raced across the Texas country side and got their just in time to support him, while supporting our own happy sourdough habit.

We got back in time to sit down to dinner at Sheila and Steve's table for a wonderful dinner.

Its been an amazing trip and we are ready to head for home tomorrow.  I know that Talleys will appreciate getting their house back to their own, and we are so grateful for their gracious hospitality.  We are so glad we got to stay long enough to get to know this charming little man.  He is so mellow, it makes being around him extra joyful.

We hope you had joy in your life this week as well.
