Sushi, Burgers and Costa Vida.

Another week of family and fun, starting at the Payson Library Book Club at noon on Monday.  I'd been working like mad to get everything priced that Dad had taken out of the car so I could get on top of the antique's pipeline in my life.  But took out an hour to support my friend Lyn who runs this book club for the library.  We discussed Once Upon a Wardrobe, that she had enjoyed a couple of months ago at our book club, as I invited her to join mine as well. The irony is that the Santaquin Library Book club, which she was in charge of when she worked there, was also discussing the same book on Thursday night, and believe it or not I took a bye.

I had a bit of fun working with AI to create this portrait, that I may or may not use in the carriage house.

On Tuesday we met up with Trevor and Eva for our traditional sushi birthday lunch for him.

On the way home we stopped to visit this cutie in Orem, and had a lovely visit as she showed us her many projects.

I still manage to get home in time to finish up the prices of the boxes and bags of goodies, and then Dad, bless his cotton socks, got it all back in the car.

Then Dad went to do temple recommends with the Stake Presidency and met up with this cute gal, who is a cousin of one of our missionaries.   Her first name is Piper, and Dad brought up Sister Clair Phipps, as was on our mission before she married another missionary named Tyler Crump.  Clair's family in Washington State has a boutique barn called the Piper Barn, which turns out to be a family name.  That's the connection, she and Claire are first cousins.  It never ceases to amaze me how Dad finds these connections, but he loves it more than just about anything.

The Moes went to see the second half of Wicked, and invited us to go along.  Of course, Dad had Stake Business, so went on my own.  I am so glad I did, because seeing in two days after my hip replacement, was not actually ideal.  I caught so much more this time.  Thanks Barb and Randy.

Of course, then I 'needed' to make this. hahahaha.

Trevor's real birthday dawned on Wednesday, and this is Dad's collage to celebrate!

I took the morning off work, so I could go and see Katie's Christmas decor before she took it down.  I had no idea. (Katie is the one who runs fleaology at her mom's house now)

I loved her invidual displays, she is very, very good at it.

Here we are together.

Here she shows the queen size bed she made in high school.

She also made these barn divider doors.

So many cute display shelf setups, I would estimate that throughout the house there were a minimum of 20 displays, some much bigger than this.

Another.

And another.

She loves banners like I do.

And Santa mugs too.

Here she is with Kathy, another fleaology dealer, in front of a cupboard that she made.

More

A lovely nativity focus.

She was having an open house, and more friends came later, but I needed to get to work to get all those things I'd priced out and into the store.

Her living room.

At work, from 12 to 2, while I paid Pat to cover my shift, I managed to put out all of the items I had priced and brought, before going on the clock at 2. Wahoo!

After work Dad picked me up and we headed to the Back Door BRGR on University in Provo, which was lucky for us, because it was so close to Treasures.
A good time was had by all.

Because when isn't it fun to hang out with these two!!

Though Trevor does get 'carried' away.  There's our Eva set to leave for the Dominican Republics before the end of the month, where she will be teaching English for three months.

When I arrived at work on Thursday there had been an accident overnight.  A book I had standing, had fallen over and knocked off an empty toast rack, which had landed on a cup and saucer on a table below knocking it to the floor.  It, of course, broke. It happens, part of our shrinkage, but it was fun to be able to recreate the accident in my mind.

I was also able to set up my Valentines display, because I brought in my unsold previous items that were already marked and also marked a few other items I bought since last February that I had at home and gathered a few others around the store by going in an hour early on Thursday.

I had also been looking for a small but interesting antique piece of furniture to place an open shelf I've had for a while, upon.  I caught this beauty as John V. brought it into the mall later that day.

Thursday was also the day that Davin and his plus one took his work cruise in the Caribbean.

On Friday morning Dad and I headed to SLC to go to my final hip surgery meeting with the surgeon.  It was a good meeting, I'm off all related meds, with his blessing, and he said that I will continue to get better and better for up to a year.  WOW.  I feel so good now, its hard to believe.  He also said that if my left hip doesn't bother me, I won't need surgery on it at all.  So far it has hardly twinged on occasion.  A long way from " when you get to the point you have more bad days than good days."  My GP had said I needed to do it soon, as our bodies can do the surgery much better at 70 than 80, but Dr Ferney said that he's done it on healthy folks in their 90s.  He said he did a new knee for a man who was 97, and healthy and who went on to live until he was 102.  Let's just say I was glad to hear that.

We went to DI in SLC, then I met up with my nephew Scott, here shown on the left, at The State Developmental Center in American Fork, for a yearly meeting to be held for Scott's niece and ward, Alyssa, show next to him.  Dad waited in the car, and afterwards we all went to lunch, at Alyssa's favorite place Costa Vida.  I actually liked it too, because they have shrimp that is a choice for your protein, and my salad was amazing.

Next, we headed to the Burlington Coat factory so Scott could use his Dad, Harry's money, to allow her to buy a new wardrobe.  I am hoping that we can be more involved in her life and maybe be able to help her towards an independent life.  She is the daughter of Scott's younger brother, Todd, who is an alcoholic and who met Allyssa's mother, who'd had brain damage at birth.  Not the best set of parents one could hope for, though I believe they did their best.  But she's had negative behaviors since she was about 12, and her parents, unequal to the challenge, saw the state take custody.  Todd called me back then, knowing we'd done foster care before, but it was a month before we were set to leave on our first mission to Finland.  Anyway, my nephew Scott has been amazing to have taken on custody, and I know she is getting amazing care where she is now.

That night I met up with some of my book club members to take the challenge at Salem Library's Pub Style Book Trivia Challenge ... so much fun!!, Scott came to watch and laugh at our dilemmas, as we took last place of 6!!  I did feel good that I was able to help with the Jane Austen and Agatha Christie questions, anyway.

And it was fun to run into old friends, Shanna and Joe Weight.  She was my visiting teaching partner for a few years, and he served with Trevor on his mission, back in the day.

After a busy Friday I was glad to be home all day on Saturday.  I set the etagere that we were given by the Jamsas (With whom we served in Finland, she and her husband are both half Finnish, and we served with them on our second mission, they live in Salem.  The etagere was her mother's, and came from Finland, and she thought we'd make it the perfect home)

And here it is with red antique books and colorful majolica.

Dad spent the majority of the day at a Barbershoppe Board Meeting.

So that's been our week.  I did teach Primary for my first time today, and it seems we have amazing kids in our class of 9 turning 10-year-olds.  Today when asked what is in the Pearl of Great Price, one of the kids said, The Book of Moses, another said,  Joseph Smith History, and still another said, "Um, its the book of something that starts with an A sound.  Yep, the book of Abraham.  Who would have thunk!

So that was our first week out of the winter doldrums, thanks to all who invited us to join in fun activities.  We love you all.
