How cute is Brittany's Elf on the Shelf?
And here is something else that is very cute, our youngest grandchild with his Papa on Monday when we baby sat.
I spent much of Tuesday puttering around the house in preparation for entertaining on Sunday. This cupboard in the family room most recently held my blue to green vase collection. In my effort to cut back, I moved this collection from the front hall and took the vases to the malls to sell. Most of these dishes are based on an antique Danish pattern, and many of these dishes are very old. Some pieces of Aunt Julie's that I love, but that were too damaged to sell so they found a home here. I thought the Danish blue and white was perfect for our Scandinavian room.
That left this front cupboard empty, so I tried to decide what to do with it. I plan to take it down and sell it, but with the holidays, and the fact that Dad didn't paint behind it, I am kind of stuck with it for the time being. So, when I worked Wednesday, I brought home all these celluloid deer that I had for sale, that I will sell next year instead, just so the cupboard looks ok until we take it down and paint the wall.
At work on Wednesday Joyce and her husband came in to show me the tender box they had just bought. It was from when the pioneers were traveling, they kept this box under the wagon so it would be dry, and when they stopped, they could kindle a fire right away. I've heard of them but never seen one.
A customer bought this pipe ornament up to buy, another first for me.
And how fun is this cat car?
At work on Thursday, I was checking out the various artists that would be at the $100 show that night. I already have 2 paintings by this artist and was hoping to bag the framed hollyhock painting toward the right.
After work, I ran over to the Springville Art Museum, where Dad was saving me a place in line.
And here you see the Hollyhock painting in the niche above the balcony stairs in our room. The paintings in this niche are all gardens and cottages and young girls and flowers. I bought three other paintings; one is actually a block sort of structure of a stylized nativity. Also, a painting of Scrooge, done by an artist that I also have 2 paintings by, and a painting of the church in Spring City, by an artist who is new to me.
After the $100 dollar art show we headed to Highland, where we got to see Titan performing with his school chorus.
Can you spot him? He's pretty handsome, don't you think?
The combined choirs did an African Christmas song about Jerusalem.
Titan's fan club.
Here is our Trevor with some work associates on a business trip in Texas, of course stopping to see Buckee's Beaver is a must, and of that involves getting some Buckee's Nuggets.
oops, caught in the act on the family Marco Polo page.
On Friday Finn loving people all over the word celebrated their Independence Day. The country is now 107 years old.
During our time in Finland, we really came to love their European style Christmas markets. Now we have one in Utah, billed as seen above, but the market itself had all kinds of European countries represented.
We thought this bug with the gift decor on top was worth a gander.
Here we are by the entrance.
We enjoyed the wandering fairy girls, who would take your picture and or pose with you.
We liked the stuffed animal reindeer. It was a lovely wander, and we came away with sourdough bread from our favorite vendor, a couple of Swedish Bells, a Norwegian counting book and a stroop waffle in honor of Danny, our Dutch Foreign Exchange student.
On the way home we met up with the Moes to see two of their grandkids in a play in Pleasant Grove. Look how tall Kami is. (Katrina's oldest)
Kami's just younger brother, Kyler shared the lead with the guy who is carrying him in this picture. He is a very talented young man.
Taking his bows.
The center character here is Katrina's third child. Kenzie also did a great job in the play.
Yep, Somethings Rotten (in Denmark of course as the play within this play is a knock off of Hamlet)
Here's the star of the show with both sets of his grandparents.
Saturday morning dawned early for us, and we were up and at it making our breakfast casserole for the Ward Christmas Breakfast, a Cowboy Christmas. Brother Gubler here came and performed some great Cowboy Poetry. I asked him to pose with Dad for a picture ...
Then ran into Brent York and had a nice chat.
Then when he performed, he referred to Brother Perkins, as his old buddy in crime ...
It was quite hilarious.
It also happened to be Andy's birthday. Dare I say his 50th birthday> It really doesn't seem possible.
Next, we met up with the Moes to drive up Provo Canyon to Midway where we had lunch at the Blue Boar Inn. What a great model of European style in the Swiss manner.
We took a tour of a few of the rooms after a delicious lunch. I adore this bed. Maybe our old master bedroom with its four-poster mahogany bed needs a makeover.
Of course, Dad would find the one bit of Finnish decor.
Then we headed over to the private home that was hosting the Creche Festival. By the way Creche is a French word for nursery. Here is the metal gate I sold the gal a couple of weeks ago as she was preparing for this festival.
They had an Italian Nativity that included all of Bethlehem, complete with 100's of its citizen. When we went to Italy with the Moe's family we saw a whole long ally of shops with this style of nativities. So beautiful, and they said it took like 60 hours to set up. Whoa.
He's a fun, colorful set from Peru.
I love this painting.
I think this one was Royal Doulton, what a pretty baby.
Here are some pictures Dad took. This one is from India.
Including a Nettie's Gnomes set.
This one is from Japan.
This one was so odd, it's a 'modern' set. The one guy is taking a selfie with the baby Jesus while his wife is flashing a peace sign. Three delivery (Wise men) bringing Amazon packages.
Another nativity from Japan.
And of course, with 2 other odd cars, we really needed a nativity in a yellow jalopy. Joseph is driving with Mary holding the baby Jesus in the front seat and the 3 wise men piled into the back seat.
In the north countries, the Mitkos were also on an outing, watching the Nutcracker.
Today this beautiful loaf of Pulla came to our house, as made by Nancy Mottishaw.
Also, in attendance where Amy and Jerry Mason, as well as the Taylors who are headed to Finland for an 18-month mission, doing what we did on our second mission. Jerry and Larry Taylor grew up together in Gilbert/ Lehi, Arizona. We also invited two other favorite sets of former Finnish missionaries, the Vests and the Mottishaw's. We had a love evening.
In other fun, Eva and a friend who is the son of one of her mom's best friends in high school, Kenna, attended a dance together. Looks like a ton of fun, doesn't it.
Here are some pictures of Nell, and Kenna in high school. Ya gotta love it.
