Buying and Selling (And Building too)

What a week ... Whew!  It started with Dad and me heading south. I dropped him at the Lynn's in Cedar City where he met up with a couple of other guys from the office.   Dum dum de dum ... Store Tours episode 1    Which is a follow up on their fall walk, where they show managers what they need to change. Store tours checks for implimentation.   

I went with him to do my own version of store tours, DI stores that is. The cute haunted house and Halloween people are a few of the things I bought over two days for almost $150 in total purchases!! Think inventory! 

That night we met up at the hotel ...

and went to dinner. Afterwards we checked out Tai Pan Trading. 

The next morning he was off to Overton Nevada  with the guys and I was back at the St George DI!  I took a break to check out the antique stores downtown. 

I loved this cute store: Annie's Vintage Garden! 

This sign made me giggle.  Around 2:00 I headed over to the Lynn's in St George.

To pick up Dad!  I guess this is your conference table if you're a grocer!!   We headed home so we could vote before the polls closed. 

Of course we watched us some Downton   before bed! 

On Wednesday Gordon brought his construction trailer and parked it!  Yeah! Step one!  

I was off to work, doing projects for the coming show and gathering stock.

Dad visited 3 stores that day and came home to work on wiring in the attic. 

At work on Thursday I painted this cupboard. It had been a dark navy and hadn't sold. I love the red and may not sell it after all. 

After I got home I gathered more stuff for the sale 

I put some globes on new stands. 

And spray painted the ball for this globe craft!  It was finished up Friday. 

Dad went to Price and Richfield in preparation for upcoming frozen resets that day.

Friday morning I finished up some projects, like the little globe and painting a few things. I stripped off old fabric and reupholstered a chair with an old burlap coffee bag. 

Dad went to Price again that day then hit the Spanish Fork and Provo stores. 

About 3 I met Dad at the Rec Center in PG to do set up.   He got the stuff hauled in, while I sorted and arranged. Then he went off to welcome Ryan home from his mission in Japan at Moes while I finished set up, got things priced and made a list of price signs to make at home that night. And I'm not gonna lie, I did some pre shopping too.

Friday morning I was off to the show. Margo loved this map I got from Wendy!  

This lady bought the chair I'd upholstered the day before. One less thing in the garage!!

This gal bought my Abraham Lincoln quote I'd made from game letters ( I'm a success today because I had a friend who believed in me and I did not have the heart to let him down) 

This mother and daughter bought vintage 40's wrist watches!! 

The show was terribly busy!  And tons of fun. 

Meanwhile, Dad was at home building the beds and wall for our Peter Pan Festival of Trees display. This will be the Darling children's nursery !  

He finished up in time to head to Titan's birthday party for some fun of his own!

Back at the show I was catching up with friends all day!  It's one of the best parts of a sale for me! 

But all good things must come to an end. Dad came and helped me load out and we finished in an hour. Then we spent a half hour helping load friends.  Last of all  we had dinner at a Mexican place on main in PG. before ... 

meeting up with Moes and Heuers  (including the two newly returned missionaries Jake (Canada) and Ryan.) to see this silly musical!! 

Today we were off to our respective church meetings. Afterwards it was fun to have Brittney and Spencer come up to visit!  

Then it was time to head to Trevor's house to have breakfast for dinner. 

It was great to see everyone, as always. 

Emily's Birthday, The Christmas Drawing, A Dead Phone and Halloween Fun Times!

So the big news this week is that my phone gave up the ghost ... right in Sunday School with Spencer sitting beside me for the last time, as he will now be teaching Primary with Brittney!  Lucky for me I could look off his phone for the lesson.  Thanks Buddy!

So you get many fewer pictures this week than usual given the dead phone situation, and the post will likely be shorter too.  Lucky you!  

On Monday, I finally got the house back to rights, after my tea party ... the dining room table sat by the window from Tuesday through Monday, YIKES!  I also spent hours blogging, as you may recall, I lost a completed blog ... I love technology.  Dad and I finished up the day watching Downton Abbey!

Tuesday was Emily's birthday and I got to talk to her on the phone for almost an hour, which was lovely.  I spent most of the day working on organizing my craft room ... I'm getting so close.  In fact I was actually able to do a couple of projects on my craft room table this week, and that is progress.  The Temple is closed for a couple of weeks, so Dad and I hung out after dinner and he chose 'Austenland' for our movie of the evening! No wonder I love that guy!!

... and Thanks to Emily and Dad, Wednesday was one of the most fun days in recent history.  thanks Emily for moving to Texas and inviting us to come down, and Dad for being unable to go down, due to work.  I'd arranged some days off to go, so when the guy I'd traded to get off last Wednesday had already had me work his day, I left it as is, so I was free Wednesday.  

That morning my friend Joanne texted to see if I wanted to go to Kim's open house in SLC.  I'd gone to Kim's Tea Party a couple of weeks ago, and loved it, but thought it would be fun to go with this group of blogger friends ... there is so much to see at Kim's afterall.

Above is a picture of Kim's house.  I took a ton of pics, but so did my friends, and I got them to send me enough to do a Pollyanna blogpost about the day.  That left me with a few to share with you all.

After Kim's house we went to her daughter's store, Retro Betty's.  I loved this antique 1940's award winning Halloween costume ... the collar is made of crepe paper ... 

Afterwards we went to Zupa's in Sugar House ... the same one that I last had a meal with Emily, before taking her to the airport.

On Thursday I did the family Christmas gift drawing, which is included at the bottom of this post.  Then it was off to work.  After work I sort of shopped my way north, picking up stuff for upcoming Festival of Trees, then hitting the DI in AF before joining Dad at Trevor and Nell's to babysit, as they'd gone to a concert that night.  I had the cutest picture of Dad with Penny, but its lost forever.  Though its not hard to imagine a cute picture of Dad with Penny!

On Friday I did more craft room organizing and put together these craft kits to sell at the 3 Dotters' show I'm doing this weekend.   I did some repairs on items for the show as well, before making dinner for Dad and Cheryl.  After dinner the Pecks stopped by to see the attic and see if they are interested in taking it on.  I showed you Trudy and me at the house they just finished flipping last week.  They are looking for the house for their next flip, at the moment, and think they can sandwich us in!  Yeah, he does awesome work, and we are so excited!! He'll be doing the insulation and sheet rocking that Dad can't do with his shoulder injury and surgery coming up.

And thanks to Emily we started watching the Big Bang theory that night.  She pre-ordered  last season for us for my Birthday and it came this week!  Happy me, we are having so much fun!

 On Saturday, I got going early making up a craft to take to Eva and Eleanor's Halloween Party that they had invited me to.  I stopped by Becca's house with Titan's birthday gift, that included these Menion PJs, and found him watching Despicable Me, which he'd gotten for his birthday!  Score!!

Then Eva and Eleanor's party was super fun, and it was the perfect way to spend Halloween afternoon.  We had fun Halloween snacks on cute Halloween snack trays and drank drinks of out tiny plastic cups.  Then we worked on the craft I'd brought, and it was so fun to craft with my kindred crafting spirits!  Nell is sending me some pictures she took, so I will add those when I get them.

 Meanwhile, back in the attic, Dad was working hauling out years of storage.  He came up with about 15 years worth of financial records, many of which he could now dispose of ... I loved the smoky autumn smell he created burning them ....

 Of course I lost the picture I took of Spencer helping him move the bath tub into the bathroom, but even without proof we appreciate all Spencer did to help out with this project.  As you can see by the time I got home, it was pretty well cleared out, but I did get to work on it for about an hour with Dad.

Its amazing to realize that Dad hauled the heavy old cistern out onto the balcony by himself.  Whoa, he has skills!

Today was pretty typical ... I went to our Sacrament and Testimony meeting and then to Sunday School.   In Sunday School we talked about a scripture in Ephesians that really struck me. 

Ephesians 6:1-3

 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

Its pretty basic, but I realized why this scripture is so true.  If you honor and obey your parents, who want the best for you, like your Heavenly Father does, then you do things that are good for you.  Like eating healthy, getting exercise, you will avoid harmful substances.  Obeying your parents will mean that you stay away from harmful relationships in your youth, you will be peaceable, as in you will not fight with others.  You will not steal, or commit adultry, or break any of the other commandments, that lead to angry relationships, or getting in trouble with authorities.  All of that leads to a long life, because you are more likely to be healthy, and stay away from dangerous behaviors.  Thus it is a commandment with a promise!

Anyway, next I was off to Dad's second sacrament and testimony meeting.  I bore my testimony about how the saints strengthen each other.  I love that part about my membership in the church.

After church I did some reading, I finally started the second book of the Joseph Smith Papers, see what a good thing having a dead phone can be?  So that was our week!!

Wonderful Witchy Week!

So Monday for me was spent getting ready for my witches party the next day ... that included a lot of cleaning, and dusting, sweeping and vacuuming.  and of course decorating!!

 I introduced my new witch to Elphaba, they seem to get along just fine!!

 I finished up the witch shoes I paper mach'ed last week, with some glitter, a whole bottle full in fact.

Then I set the table, so all would be ready for the next day!

Dad and I even took the time to go to the care center and present a family home evening that night.  Dad had bought a could of LDS games, that we shared with them.  We even gave out candy for prizes, I think they all had a good time.

 Then it was time for witches to arrive ... we started with Cruella DeVille!

 The party was lots of fun, but I was exhausted when all was said and done ... I managed to nap in my chair for a couple of hours afterwards.

Of course Dad worked the full day, came home and emptied the seats out of the blue van so he could use it to haul the next day, then he did his regular shift at the temple!!

 On Wednesday, I left early for work so I could stop off in Provo to see the house that Trudy just finished flipping. The sale closed that afternoon so it was my only chance to see the amazing transformation they pulled off.  Now Dad and I are thinking of hiring her hubs to come do the insulation and sheet rock in the attic bedroom.

 I clearly had witchy on the brain, because I transformed this antique school picture into a school for witches picture at work.

That night Dad and I finally got a chance to see the Downton Abbey that had aired Sunday.

 I did the two collages of our bedroom and library before work on Thursday for an Instagram share.

That night, after making dinner for Dad and Cheryl, I headed to Elk Ridge for Book Club. We had read The Woman in White, which was one of the earliest mystery novels.  It was written by a friend of Charles Dickens and was serialized in Dicken's literary magazine of the day.  Kind of a fun, if wordy, read.

Dad brought home this 'witch' from work that day ... keeping with our week of witches!

 On Friday I was up early to hook up with Laura Gray for a day of junking.

We headed straight to Centerville for this estate sale, because I wanted to hit a shop in Bountiful, I'd committed to visit.

This sale was great, I got a bunch of pyrex and about 15 old flower frogs for a buck and half each.

 Next we stopped at Madeleine L' Amour on main in Bountiful.  Its a lot like Dear Lizzie in Alpine, but with more French influence.

Laura and I then visited my friend Vicki's house in Bountiful and shopped her garage ... yes, she's a dealer too.

Another estate sale, then we topped off our girls' day out with a  late lunch at Crown Burger.

After I dropped her off, I stopped at the DI in Sugarhouse...

and met up with my 'witch' of the day ....  They are doing a prize drawing, if you post on social media with certain hashtags, then you could win this, once a movie prop, guy ... no desire to own him, the selfie is the only bit I want ....

That night dad was off to the BYU Game. 

 On Saturday, I was off to work, while Dad went to watch Darby at a horse show in Salem.

 Then he worked on the front of the garage roof for a couple of hours before heading to the BYU game where he met up with these heavenly creatures ....

I meanwhile was working at the mall ... long day ... but good sales!

Afterwards Dad and I went to see Once I was  Beehive   and enjoyed it.  I think they did a good job of nailing what LDS girl's camps are like!

On Sunday I was off to our ward before joining Dad at one of the care centers for Sacrament meeting ... I parked behind the vans that belong to the home and felt sort of incognito, like when Barbara Streisand and Ryan O'Neil, drive a Volkswagen bug up on a car carrier full of bugs to hide from people chasing them ...

 After church we had a nice visit from Spencer and Brittney.  They've been elsewhere or sick on weekends, and busy with school and work on weekdays, and we've really not seen them much for about a month!   So that was nice ... then we got ready for the family dinner, which with all the Halloween decor around, sort of became a costume party.

 At least it gave us a chance to see the grands' costumes, so they don't have to trek all the way down here on Halloween.  And here we have the cutest witch of the week.
