The Week Eva Begins her Mission.

Brittany posted this update for Kai on Monday.  He has 1325 miles hiked and 1325 miles to go.  Way to go Kai.  And coincidentally I am reading a book about a missing hiker on the Appalachian trail, which he hiked a couple of years ago.  If it were last year, I'd have had to put the book down.  But the Pacific Crest hike is much less wooded, which is the problem in this book.
Dad went to the Rodeo in Ogden and sang the National Anthem, then stayed with rest of the of the chorus to watch the rodeo.

Meanwhile on the homefront in Payson, I was sorting, pricing and loading up antiques to be put out while we are on our mission in England. Dad before leaving, had cut up a 4 by 8 foot pegboard into four pieces.  I got them painted a light blue as my final project before heading upstairs to read. Can I just say how much we love the space the carriage house gives us for projects?

On Tuesday we headed to the mall, where Dad attached the peg boards to a framework above the walls in a couple of my booths.
Here's my redo on what was generally just a mixed and uninteresting booth.  Now I am focused on primitive and French Country items which seems to be popular at the moment. I had had a lot of them just scattered throughout my 3 booths there.

I moved things from those other booths, like the large ginger jar, and some old baskets to create unity.

That night we met up with this gal ...
As she was ready to start her home MTC and needed to be set apart.

Her Grand Parents Grow, Her folks, us, and her sisters.
Here she is with her family, except Scott who is working on his masters in Washington state.
Her dress reminds me of the blue and white china I have been hustling for a few months.
Yep, that's our gal.

Here is Eva pointing to her own tag outside the Stake President's office.  Boy there are a lot of missionaries in this stake.

On Wednesday Dad rearranged his side cupboard from this ...

To this.  Much more efficient.  He had taken a primitive cupboard I needed for my booth redo, so after I took it back, it was not very organized for him.  Now he 'borrowed' another shelf that I use for display at fleaology.  But it's perfect for the space, and he is very happy with it, and I am impressed.

This is the little cupboard he had been using, as you can see at the store on Thursday.  You can also see that I added turquoise-colored transferware dishes into the stack I did on Tuesday, as I brought in my personal collection of turquoise transferware, which I have been collecting for five years.  I still love it, but it was on the faux mantel piece in the conservatory guest room, which our house sitters will be using for their two little boys.  It was either pack it up and find a place for a couple more boxes or sell it and start collecting something else later to take its place.

Look how good this looks with the tall blue peg board.  You can see the antique baskets gathered together here.  There were world globes on the white cupboard, which makes no sense for a French Country Collection.

As Dad headed in for his shift that day, he ran into the Hales.  Andrew Hale was one of my favorite Assistants, while we served as Office Missionaries in Finland.  He married the identical twin of one of our sister missionaries, who married, Elder Hales Companion (also AP).  They were there for a family wedding.  Andrew and Liesel Hale, her twin is now Gweneth Hall. Funny how similar their last names are Hale and Hall.

On Friday, Pioneer Day, I worked on more bins and framed the picture on the upper left of this display in the Carriage house.

Becca's family, plus one, went hiking in the Grand Canyon.  Which is a perfect activity for Pioneer Day.

Dad and I had a nice dinner that Dad planned and then went to see Young Washington.

These pictures are a lay out of my finds while garaging and junking on Saturday.

Here's the whole she-bang, minus about 25 books.

After I finished my junking, I stopped by Ashley's in hopes of convincing her to come to Becca's pool party the next day.  Andy was there and said she'd had an early shift at work, I hope he passes along my plea.  I felt awful about the mix up last Saturday and missing her Disk golf tournament.

When I got home, I put a few things up on Market Place, including this set of Yellowstone collectibles.

Dad and I finished off the day with Indian Food from Davin's old neighbor, and another British Policeman Mystery.  Then I lay out on the balcony, and watched fire works for a half an hour.  I guess there is always a silver lining, since I would have seen next to nothing, before the huge tree was cut down, after it died.  Dad is letting one of the suckers from its roots grow up in the yard.  It's about 5 feet tall now.  It will be interesting to see if it survives.

This morning Dad and I headed off early to go to Eva's Farewell.  Then we headed to her house, along with a half a million of her friends.

Here her cousin found a garter snake.

And as you see her brother Scott came down from Washington for the weekend for her send off.  Here are Trevor, Nell's Uncle Bobbie, J Scott and Spencer.

Nell's Mom and her sister Sarah who drove up from Arizona with her family for the big day.

Eva with some of her friends.

Nells sister Leslie, Nell and Penny peeking between.  Leslie and her family drove down from Boise, Idaho.

And here is Eva with Nell's sister Sarah, and her sister Alexa (usually called Bugs) who also served a mission.

Eva with friends again.

And with her Great Grandma George.

Me with GG George.

Trevor announcing the details of the wonderful Full Table Charcuterie we all got to share.

General shot of the living room.

Another view.

And Mac, who was there with his family!

I am posting this now, before leaving for Becca's pool party.  If you see this, you should check it out tomorrow for pics at the pool party.

Making the Most of Summer.

And here it is mid-July already, and the members of our family have been busy.  Elias is the third of the 'triplets', to get his learner's permit.

On Tuesday I had my twice a month date with Alysa.  We did our typical, doing some junking

and then eating at Alysa's favorite restaurant.
Eva's 19th birthday was Wednesday.  Her Aunt Brittany shared this picture from her own wedding on 8.8.8

Here is Dad's collage of Eva's birthday.

Here she is on the big day!

This is the second table at dinner that night with members of Nell's family, including cousins.

Eva with her besties, Avery and Kylie.

Trevor and Lu

Here is table one with Eva at the far end of the right side.

Now for other fun that was had this week ... Here Emily and Sam host four missionaries for Pizza. Included in this group is a brand-new missionary from Payson, who happens be the Grandson of my friend KD from my book club.

Brittany and her kids came down to do a day at Lagoon.  How fun is this?
Before heading home the next day, she hooked up with Spencer for lunch.

Emily's family went to the zoo.

And these pictures indicate family fun to come, as Becca and Brady get their new fence installed as well as some sprinklers ...
As they are planning a pool party for us all.

On Thursday I finished up the changeover of this booth.
I'm hoping that it will boost sales in this little half of a half booth.

Dad spent the day at the temple doing his normal temple shift, of course his favorite part is running into old friends, which almost always happens.

I worked at the Grove on Friday. That evening I worked on reframing this little dog punched paper portrait from the 1880s. It was in its original antique frame but the oval had been cut out and then glued on a larger rectangular hard board that visually is too large.  But I guess that was the size of the frame they had on hand.  The cool thing is that the dog is made up of tiny glass beads. I've seen more than a hundred punch paper samplers over the years but had never seen one with beads.  Googling it I found that glass beads were used on these starting in the 1860's. I also learned that artwork like this was often done as a memorial to a beloved pet.

And in that vein, we have seen lots of pictures on-line of Miss Missy, Brittany and Mike's Scottish Terrier who passed this week.  She had been a puppy mill mommy until she was worn out at age 6, and Brittany rescued her and gave her 6 lazy years as a family dog.  We all adore her.  I hope there is a doggy heaven.

Saturday was full, full, full.  I started by dropping Dad off at Kathy's funeral.  Her husband is a long time friend and fellow barbershopper that Dad knows.  His chorus went to sing at her funeral.

I dropped him off and did some junking, then went and picked him up.  We had intended to head up to Brighton Ski Resort, so see Ashley disk golfing in an international tournament, that including 4 people from Finland.  We were excited to get to see her golf.

But plans go array sometimes, and we realized we had already missed her Tee Time.  When I talked to her, she said she was done and was heading down the mountain.

I shopped the grand opening of this store.  I had signed on to be a dealer here back in March.  When the mission idea came into being, I knew it wasn't possible.  The store is darling, it would have been fun.

Of course, on the course, Ashley had a ball without us, what beautiful scenery.

Kim and a friend were there to support her.

So, we had planned to take Spencer to dinner for his birthday after the tournament, and when Dad called to try to change it to lunch, Spencer said he was loading up the house to put much of it in storage, as he  prepares to move with the kids to Boston next week, where Brittney is already working on her second Master's degree at Harvard.

Dad asked if he could help, so I dropped Dad off again and went to DI again, my doesn't that sound familiar.  Anyway, we passed the Police Memorial Motorcycle ride that was headed toward Big Cottonwood Canyon with its 2500 riders.  Yikes.

I guess it was a good thing that we WERE NOT headed up the canyon to Brighton.  I just hope Ashley wasn't delayed coming down, but it looked SOOOOO cool.
Here are Spencer and Dad loading in a big vase ...

Then off course it was off for some Indian Food at Mumbai House on 21st.

Today I was back in Primary after two weeks away.  I now have two teaching partners, who will continue after I finish in September.  Raylene Christensen taught last week, and Nancy Ramirez taught today.  She brought some confetti eggs, as she was teaching the kids about how Christ wants to gather us under his wing.  The kids had a ball breaking them.

And I think Nancy did too.

So that was our low-key week.  We're grateful that we got to see a couple of our kids.  We are grateful that they all seem to be living active lives and are doing such a great job taking care of our grands.
