Fun with Friends and Family that May or May not Involve Vintage Junking!

On Monday, I spent the day cleaning up from our Dr. Suess  Bash, and catching up on blog posts, doing three in all.  That evening, after dinner, Dad and I went to the Parkway Care Center, where Trevor and Nell and their family were presenting a Family Home Evening.

Trevor gave a lesson, Eva did a flannel board story, Scott accompanied the opening and closing songs, as well as playing a musical number.  Eva did a repeat of the night before, and read, with dramatic effects, "Green Eggs and Ham" ...
Trevor and I having photo wars.

This gentleman has a wife with severe Alzheimers.  He is like the perfect spouse, I love to see how gently and loving he is with his wife Cheryl.  His name is Elmo, but in real life, in a suit, he looks like a Harvard Professor.  Such a very nice man.

On Tuesday I finally made myself cut my hair ... I have been intending to try it for something like two months.  I just finally made myself, worried as I was, and I liked how it turned out, and now that I know how to do it, I'll save $25 every third month, right!!

I also ran some errands, including returning my library books, and found that there is a new used book store in town ... in the original Payson library building, of all places.

I also went to the hardware store for staples so I could upholster the seat on the chair I painted.  I usually just list items I have at the antique mall on our ROCC Wednesdays ...  so I was determined to have a real reclaimed project ready!!  But that night when CJ, our personal plumber came to finish up the prep work in the attic for the bathroom in the master suite there, he bought the chair.  So  I ended up listing something from the shop the next day, anyway.
Wednesday, before work, I stopped and visited with Jane Johnson.  I used to visit teach her before they split the wards, and promised her I could keep in touch.  I do love and admire her, but it took me 6 months ... and it was a lovely visit.
On Wednesday, I took in my faded and damaged pyrex bowls and marked them two dollars each.  I posted them on facebook, on The Utah Pyrex Pirates page, but before anyone seeing the listing could come in, another pyrex fan bought them all ... within about an hour.

I moved a couple of shelves around at the antique mall to make my booths work better .... this is my red kitchen booth.
I took the red shelves our of my tea party booth, after I had glass cut for this white wire shelf, that I thought looked much better with the tea things and wrought iron table here.
I also found this shelf at work, that Dad is going to work into our kitchen cupboards, to give the impression that they aren't what they actually are ... 70's oak kitchen cabinets ... I hope it works.

On Thursday morning Dad and I were off early to work answering the phones at the KSL-Primary Children's Radioton.  Here are Grant and Amanda, who Dad and I have woken up to each morning on KSL for the last 30 years ... Grant retires next week, it seems impossible ... but true.

Carla, an antique dealer from the Ogden area, who has done fleaology before, saw that I was at the radiothon on her Instagram page, and came over to see me!  How fun.  She is an electrician, and has been working on the new construction across the street, which is a addition to the hospital and is connected by a sky bridge.
and as we leaving we importuned Doug Wright, another favorite radio personality, to stop and have his picture with the Heuers and me.

Since I'd taken a half day off work for the radiothon, and didn't have to be back to work until 2, I stopped at this cute vintage consignment store in Sugarhouse.   I found the perfect plinths (corner pieces) for the kitchen window, where the wood work was cut away when the tiled that wall in the 70's  ... now with being back to the brick wall the missing base of the window frame needs something and I think these old architectural pieces will be perfect.
It such a cute store ... Then I was back to Springville for a half day of work.
That night  Dad picked up Subway Sandwiches for us that night, as I was so exhausted.  Isn't he awesome!?

On Friday Becca came by and met up with the closer who was in charge of Cheryl signing papers for selling her condo.  Becca said it was the fastest signing she had ever done, Cheryl asked no questions, and had no concerns, but she did note that the first set of papers had her name with a middle initial, which she doesn't have ... oops ... the closer had to go and get a whole new set ... that's when Brady, shown above, came and got the kids!!  So fun to see Becca at work!
After making dinner for Dad and Cheryl, I headed to American Fork to meet up with the Reclaimologists and Other Crafty Chicks (ROCC) for a girls night out.  We ended up with 6 of the 19 in the group ... but it was fun to get to know these girls better ....

However in a completely uncharacteristic move for me,  I was actually the first one to leave at 10:10 ... what a party pooper I am!!

But I needed to start out early the next morning to  be first in line for the Vintage Whites Sale.  I picked up Wendy at 8 and we got there before nine, and were about the 30th in line, so we got the Swag bags they were offering to the first 50 in line ... here we are shown with Julie E., with whom I work, and who got there at 8:30!.

Above I am shown with the girls who organized the show in the first place ... this was the third year, and its an amazing success.

Here Wendy and I pose with Jenn Reed, a former fleaology partner and friend! (Did you notice Jenn has antlers?  That would make her very happy, she loves antlers.)
Here I am with some of the ROCC girls again .... several of them did booths at the show, so it was fun to hook up for a minute!
This is Wendy's and my photo booth master piece ....  After I got home I crashed for a bit, before scraping myself off my chair to go grocery shopping with my main man!
These are the goodies I got at Vintage whites, except for the pyrex pieces that I got to resale at the DI in Sugarhouse afterwards.

I taught Relief Society at church that day, but the lesson kind of fell flat ... I guess I wasn't as prepared as I like to be ... alas.

We invited Spencer and Brittany up to share dinner with us, then ... we had our study group with them, we've been trying to read Jesus the Christ together every Sunday, but usually only make it about every other Sunday ... still I am learning a lot, and enjoy it very much.
Dad face timed Emily after our study group, and we all visited for almost an hour.  We are really looking forward to seeing her in just a couple of weeks!!  Woot Woot!  And hope things work our so that we can see our newest granddaughter as well!

The Week in Which We Finally Celebrate Dr. Suess' 111th!

On Monday, I worked, due to a trade with another dealer ... Andy, of Andy and Candace, who rehabs houses and did the amazing house in Payson, came into the store .... this is his baby daughter, who he watches a couple of days a week so Candace can work on their rehabs too ...  He told me he would swap me our house here in Payson for the amazing one he just did ... I have to say its tempting, but with no garages, where would I put my 'in process' goodies?

After work and dinner, it was off to the Kew's house for our family home evening group ... Steve taught and did a great job, as usual!

On Tuesday, I had made arrangements to go and take pictures of this glamper in Springville to use for a Pollyanna posting.  It was really fun, and she has such cute girls ... starting with 6 year old fraternal twins, then two girls who are younger.  I kind of miss that stage of my life, to be honest.

After photographing the glamper and a quick trip to the Provo DI, I stopped at Treasures North to redo the front display of which I am in charge.  That night, since Dad was doing his temple assignments in Provo, I made Cheryl and myself dinner, before spending the evening blogging and reading.

On Wednesday, the day I normally work, I spent the morning finishing off a book, before heading downstairs to start getting things ready for the upcoming Dr. Suess Birthday party.

I also sanded off the finish on the old table top we had used for the top of  our rolling kitchen island/prep station, and stained it.

After which I made some dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls, before making dinner, followed by Dad and me reading in our chairs.
On Thursday, it was time to take down the red and white display I'd had up for a couple of months at Treasures South ... I had loved that display and had so much praise for it, it was sort of hard to make myself change it out ... but alas it was time.
As you can see, I love pastel pottery, I just wish it hadn't gone out of style, so thoroughly!

On Friday I was up early for some dreaded house cleaning chores.  Then I finally got around to painting the rolling island!  Hurray!!   Then I took some stuff into Treasures, before heading to the DI in AF for an hour or so ....

Then Dad met me at Rumbi's in AF where we had dinner with the Moes and Gearhearts before heading back to see a movie in Gearhearts Theater ... we saw The Tourist, which was the perfect choice for a mixed group ... given the action, intrigue and romance ... and what's not to like about Johnny Depp, Right?   After the movie we went upstairs for goodies and games ...
This is Dad's picture of smores ... I thought it was perfect, look at his ability to use perspective ... I had no idea he was such an artist!!

On Saturday Dad abandoned me ... he had an inventory early and one late, and spent the time in between at his office getting some stuff ready for a reset he's doing next week ...  that made a long lonely day for me.  I got the house ready for the party the next day and, of course, did a large amount of reading.  Really the only redeeming thing I did, was to go through a box of Grandpa Carlo's papers ... my gosh, they seem to just go on and on ...

On Sunday Dad was up early for another inventory, and got back in time for his church meetings ...  I of course, headed off to my meetings, including another excellent Sunday School lesson, by the best teacher ever, Becky Call .... then dad and I met up at the final branch Sacrament Meeting at the Medallion, where Nine men and One Woman, were there to provide the meeting for, count them, ONE resident ... kind of funny, but still a lovely meeting.

Then we headed up to Elk Ridge where we heard Cathie and Dave Tervort's mission farewell talks.  Cathie is in my We Can service group, and is such an amazing person.  They are going to Omaha Nebraska. They gave amazing talks!

Then it was back home, and time for me to complete my party prep and make the food while Dad headed to Salt Lake for another Inventory.

We had:
Green Eggs and Ham,
Who Hash
Poodles Noodles,
Red Fish Blue Fish Jello Cups
Better Butter Battle Bagels with Butter of course
And Truffula Trees
(that looked suspiciously like broccoli)
and of course Dr. Suess's 111 year birthday cake

Then it was time to let the partying begin!!

Don't you love Elias' cool sun glasses?

After dinner we had readers share four different Dr. Suess Books ... Eva read Green Eggs and Ham.
Trevor did the Star Bellied Sneeches, making Sylvester McMonkey McBean's voice Scottish, which was hilarious and perfect!!
Davin did a great job reading, though he'd also prepared to do Green Eggs and Ham, he graciously let Eva do it, as she had also prepared ... He still did a great job, as you know, doing crazy on a  minute's notice is what he does best.
Steve Kew read  Happy Birthday to You, which had been given to his grandfather by Dr. Suess ... It was fun to see the signature and the original drawing he signed to Steve's grandfather.
I love knowing that one of my favorite Suess quotes is from this book. "Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You".

I think the grandkids enjoyed playing and listening to stories ...
See Eleanor with her dad on her lap!

Then it was time to sing and blow out candles ... happy birthday Dr. Suess!

....  and to all a good  night ... sweet dreams!

A Slow Week in Payson AND the Orem House Sells!!

On Monday I spent part of the morning sorting through Grandpa Carlo's papers, that have managed to overtake our library.  I also got in some blogging before heading out to Orem to paint the cabinets in the upstair bathroom.  Dad came by and got me and we took Eszie to see the last Night in the Museum movie, which we all enjoyed.

After we got home, I started reading, around nine, but never got tired.  I tried to go to bed several times, and took a hot bath, nothing worked, and I ended up being awake all night, never even dozed.  It was kind of scary.

On Tuesday I was out early to get a check for Darby who was planning to get a condo in Lehi at that point.  I took it to Becca 's, and got a 15 minute nap before heading up to Arlene's for a group 60th birthday party luncheon with Katherine and Nancy too.

Becca called and asked if I wanted to see an old house that had just come on the market, so I stopped at her place to see this beauty.

It still had the original false grained floor in the upstairs hall, I can't imagine that it held up to the traffic all those years ...

As you can see the munchkins came along on the trip of discovery as well!

When I got home at 6:30 to meet the plumber who is working on the attic, I just dozed in my chair until Dad got home after 11:00 ... I had no trouble sleeping that night.
On Wednesday I was off to work, a couple of friends stopped by, Patti and Laurie, and it was fun to visit with them.  This picture made me laugh because Tom, another dealer photo bombed!!

I took some pictures of my white booth, and used them to do a quickie Pollyanna blog post on my I Phone ... such a nice fill in for getting my 2 blog posts a week done.  I include this picture of the wire basket turned cloche, because I thought it was fun, and since it sold that day, I wanted to remember the idea.

Of course I worked again on Thursday, this time with Nikki and later Richard.  We had Sue Balmforth, our big California buyer come in, and she always expects us to stay late with her.  I stayed until 6:30,

before I left to get in a couple of visiting teaching visits, before heading up to Elk Ridge for book club.  Carol was hosting, and since the book had an old violin as a large part of the plot, she showed us her grandfather's violin.  She also made homemade bread for us, since the main character made and sold bread as a small business.  The book is set in pioneer times in Wyoming, and I thought Carol's house was the perfect back drop.
We also got the amazing news that day that the Orem house had sold before it was even put on the market.  Becca had put up a sign, hoping to attract a sign caller, and that is just what happened, a neighbor came and look through the house of Thursday, the day before the pictures for the listing were to be taken.  They wanted the house, and we accepted their offer the next day!  Happy Day!  We had always worried about selling this house because of the somewhat decaying neighborhood.  Becca called a month ago, after she heard our renters had moved out and told us if we ever wanted to sell it, this was the time.  With interest rates still low, and no more foreclosures, the market was short on houses, and it was a Seller Market for the first time in years.  Turned out she was exactly right!

On Friday I did my Pollyanna blog (about my book club) and then headed to the Payson Library ...

to get books for the Dr. Suess party I was to give on Sunday ... I was so surprised when I saw this cat!  I had painted him many years ago for another Dr. Suess party, and then, not wanting to throw it away had given it to the Library.  It was fun to see they've been using him!!   I then shopped several places for favors and paper products for the party.  That night Dad and I went to the Indian place, here in town, to celebrate the sale of the Orem house.

I worked on Saturday, and managed to find the time to make a couple of Suess banners for the party the next day.  On the way home I was sad to hear from one of the kids with kids that they couldn't make the party.  YIKES!  I texted back and asked if we could have their kids YES!

After work Dad and I had a quiet evening, we watched an episode of Big Bang, and read in our chairs.

Sunday was pretty normal, with church meetings as usual.  Then I got a text that another of the Kids with Kids, couldn't come to the Dr. Suess party that night .... double Yikes, I postponed the party, because really it was for my grands ...  Hopefully everything will work out for next week.

Brittney and Spencer came with us to visit Grandpa that afternoon, which is always good, then that evening they, and Darby, came by to help us eat up leftovers for dinner.  We had a lovely evening visiting, but I NEED to get my couches back from Orem ... I though I would hardly miss them as we used them to stage the Orem house ... I was so wrong!  So that was our rather slow week!
